Family violence is a pervasive and deeply gendered issue impacting individuals, families and communities across Australia. With one in four women experiencing violence from a current or former intimate partner, community services are increasingly working alongside victim-survivors every day, whether or not violence has been formally disclosed.

In this context, it is essential that practitioners feel equipped to recognise the dynamics and presentations of family violence, respond in ways that prioritise safety and dignity, and support victim-survivors to access specialist services and pathways to safety.

Walking Alongside Victim-Survivors: Building Family Violence Practice Skills is an engaging and practical professional development workshop designed to strengthen participants’ understanding, confidence and capability in responding to family violence within their professional roles.

Through a trauma-informed and victim-survivor-centred lens, participants will explore the dynamics of family violence, common indicators and presentations, barriers to disclosure and help-seeking, and the impacts of violence on adults, children and families. The workshop also builds practical skills in having safe and supportive conversations, responding appropriately to disclosures, and connecting individuals with specialist family violence services, risk assessment and safety planning support.

Whether you work directly with individuals, families, children or communities, this workshop provides essential foundational knowledge and practice skills to strengthen your response to family violence and support safer, more informed and compassionate practice across your work as you walk alongside victim-survivors in our community.

Please note, this training workshop has previously been delivered as ‘Recognise, Respond, Refer: Working with Clients Experiencing Family Violence’.
